This weekend's whirlwind trip to Tampa was an absolute blast. Alex, Erin, Janie and I met with Robert and Lori Simmons (parental units of the Diaz) at The Original Pancake House which is always a great way to start the morning off. Their corn beef hash cannot be touched. I really like Robert and Lori and I am secretly looking for houses for them in the area (ok the cat is out of the bag)!
The four of us drove across Alligator Alley where we saw probably 30+ gators soaking in rays. I thanked God for fences.
We arrived at Common Ground around 4:30 p.m. and met up with Eric Hafner (member of The Pursuit) who was spending Thanksgiving with his grandparents who live south of Tampa.
My friend, Danny Schaffner is Lead Pastor at Common Ground and it was really good to catch up with him. While we talked Alex and Eric met up with a couple of guys from the band and rehearsed. That boy Eric can sing! Wow. Glad he's on our team! Afterwards we wrapped up and headed to our hotel for the night.
Sunday morning was amazing. Erin jumped into the Children's Ministry area and served during second service, Alex and Eric led the church in worshipping God through singing and I preached both hours. This was the first time we were all able to see each other in our perspective roles. I thank God for this team He is building. It is an honor to be a part of it.
Common Ground was 13 weeks old this past Sunday. God is definitely doing something in Tampa. I can't wait until December 16, as The Pursuit Christian Church will have our first preview service.
Alex also blogged about his experience at Tampa.
In the picture above, don't I look like I am attempting a sitting down version of the "crane technique" from Karate Kid?
