If you are a church planter or are playing a supporting-cast role in church planting like me, my best advice for you is SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SMART AND HELPFUL PEOPLE!
These past few days we have worked through issues regarding bulk mail, online giving, budgeting, and a number of other adventures new to me, despite having served in a church support role for over 10 years.
I have no idea where The Pursuit would be without these folks:
1. Peggy Liddell and Potter's Will Consulting
Peggy has big brains and an even bigger heart. She graciously supports The Pursuit's bookkeeping, donor tracking, budgeting and payroll with detail, accuracy and a great deal of patience. On top of this, she's a cheerleader and protector of the ministry. If you are planting a church, contact Peggy today!
2. Tony Shaw and Simply Merchant Services
With a huge deal of grace and patience, Tony just helped us resolve a challenging situation with a donation. Tony's attitude had the church's best interest in mind. He understands that an online giving service like his is an incredibly helpful tool in collecting donor support ... as long as it doesn't get in the way of our relationship with the donor. If you are planting a church, I HIGHLY recommend you use a tool for contributors and members to donate electronically to the church. Drop Tony an email today!
3. Doug Foltz/Patrick Furgerson and Passion for Planting
If the numbers "1023" mean anything to you (and they give you nightmares), then it is for this single reason you should contact these guys right now. Doug Foltz has beautifully prepared us with all the necessary documentation for our 501(c)3 status, sales tax exemption, mailing at a Nonprofit Standard Mail rate and a myriad of other adventures. Why learn how to do this when you're only going to go through the misery of it one time and never need to do it again. Partner with Passion for Planting and let them use their expertise. They'll also coach you in so many great ways to make sure you're WELL prepared for launch.
